Our Top 10 Favorite Tools (right now)
Our founder Nicole Poppell’s must-have picks for muralists of all skill levels.
We know that it takes the right tools to get the job done right, so we’ve asked Nicole for a list of her faves to help you get started on your mural-making journey. From tripods to bumpin’ speakers, she’s got all of your bases covered.
“These products are truly my go-to favorite tools that I use on every mural project, and I absolutely love them all. If you can find them at your local hardware store, I always recommend that but here are some links to make it easy. I’ll create a separate list for travel murals - those tools get fun.”

Rolling Foldable Cart - Hands down the best invention ever.
Frog Tape - For the crispiest edges in town.
Laser Measure - Great for getting quick measurements of a wall (mostly interiors). Just point and measure.
Lightweight Tripod - Works with DSLRs, phone attachments, and laser levels.
Hulken rolling bag - Along with the folding cart, this makes carrying a lot very easy and they come in 3 different sizes. I use the Medium bag.
Zibra Triangle Brush - This baby holds a lot of paint so you can get smooth curves.
Wooster Brush 2” Angle - A great all-around brush. I like the short handle so you can get into tight spaces and hold it in different ways.
Air blower - Great for interior spaces where you need to work quickly. It also has extra outlets on the side, which is handy.
Handy Paint Cups - These are the most comfortable ones to hold, but you can also get smaller ones at Home Depot. The plastic liners aren’t necessary. If you let the paint dry completely inside the cup, they will peel right out!
Folding stool or Gardening Pad - I use both and my physical therapist is very happy about it.
Honorable mention:
Aluminum Chalk Holder - Save your little fingys from getting messy. It’s not a must have, but it is a nice-to-have.
Oontz speaker - Music on the go, need I say more?
There ya have it. Nicole’s top 10 favorite tools for muralists (at the moment). We hope there is something in there to make your mural life easier. If you have a favorite tool, we’d love to hear it! These are all tools that we learned from other artists along the way, so it’s fun to learn what’s new out there.
Happy painting!
